Thanks for the tips, cgreg!
I have enjoyed reading the New Year's Resolutions of Crowley and Aziraphale.
I have to agree with Crowley's Resolution 1 and 5, and Aziraphale's Resolution 3.
What are YOUR New Year's Resolutions?
This thread is for any ideas anyone would like to share about how to celebrate or not celebrate New Years eve.
There are many who just like to stay home and watch the ball drop on tv, check out the celebrations from around the world and listen to the music but...
There are still things you can do to "liven it up" or "tone it down"
Here's a few to start it off.
1) If you plan to end up naked, make sure you do it indoors (gonna be cold) and around people who will appreciate it or think it's funny
2) If the kids wanna take part, let them. No reason why they cant sleep in the next day just like you plan to (NEw Years Eve is on Saturday Night)
3) Have breakfast planned. If you have people over or even just do the family thang, have something to much on in the morning. Make sure you have coffee for guests and something to eat (donuts, pastries, waffles, pheasant under glass, snozzberries...)
4) If you invite people over, plan for a few to stay (dont start the year off with a tragedy) (no I'm not having anyone over)
5) Have options, though many will imbibe in adult beverages, some may skip it or only want that midnight glass of champagne. (If the kids are there, try to maintain some semblance of normal behavior)
6) Pass the hat. Dont be afraid to ask people to bring things or chip in for the run or whatever
7) If it wears a stone, leave it alone (dont try to get too smoochy with someone elses wife or hubby, esepcially if they are there )
8) Party hats and noisemakes are good, obnoxious people who are just noisy and annoying are bad
9) Make sure you have tp, asprin and lots of cameras.
9A) If you plan on getting drunk and stupid, stay away from those with the cameras (refer to #1)
10) Dont be a poopface. Dont try to ruin someone's 2006 by being a jerk to them on the first day of it.
Anyone can feel free to add to this if they so wish.

What are YOUR New Year's Resolutions?
I'm repeating last years resolution (which I actually kept!) which is to go to the gym on average 4 times a week and perform a workout according to a minimum standard I've set. More for blood pressure and cholesterol reasons than for aesthetic purposes, and because I think it helps me stay mentally fit and more upbeat.
I generally resolve not to make any resolutions.
By saying that I make it and break it all at once
But there are a few I can use that are 100% guaranteed to be kept by me
I dont smoke, so I resolve not to start smoking (that's a gimme, I'll never be a smoker)
I dont smoke pot, so I resolve not to start doing that or any other illegal drugs
I resolve to remain a heterosexual
I resolve to never wear a dress in public, private or anywhere else (although I have the legs for it LOL!)
I resolve to continue to tell stupid jokes at will
I resolve to cheer for my own favorite teams and not give a damn if anyone doesnt like it
I resolve not to give in and become a poopface
I resolve not to care about stupid issues that have no meaning or bearing on anything of importance
I resolve to watch what I wanna watch, see what I wanna see, listen to what I wanna listen to and pretty much do what I wanna do
I resolve to eat at least 12 different flavors of ice cream this year
I resolve to drink beer but maybe a few less here and there
I resolve to continue to work to live and not become someone who lives to work
I resolve to eat where I wanna eat and not care if it pisses someone off
I resolve to spend some time poolside this summer
I resolve to continue to do my sunday breakfast thing, even if some dont like it
I resolve to continue to look for deals and sales and laugh at those who think less of me for it
I resolve to avoid becoming a canibal
I resolve to be myself
I resolve to end this list right now

Now, I cant mention everything, but here a few interesting things going on New Years Eve.
(the reason I've delayed the Jan to do list is because all the good Dec stuff is still going on! Who-Ha all week long )
Ok, first of all they will be ringing in the new year in a big way again in Newport as the World Peace bell will swing and ring at Midnight. (one of those new years shows should have a camera there, I mean it is the WORLD PEACE Bell)
Anywho, how about some laughs.
At Southgate House they have the Comedy Countdown at 9pm admission $15 call 859-431-2201
At Go Bananas Eddie Gosslin 984-9288
At The Funny Bone Alonzo Bodden 859-957-2000
At Music Hall the Cincy Symphony will be having their concert and ball
$17.75-$73.75 for concert only
$167.75-273.75 for the concert and ball
At the Old Fat Fish Blue location in Newport $30 and a non perishable food item will get you in to see Bootsey (Bootsey is one of those people who doesnt even need to use his last name)
8pm call 259-5291 for more info
Most of these things are things you can do before or after you go to dinner or whatever.
Might I suggest a trip to one of the Who-Ha things if you have a family that night. Maybe do that then come home to watch the ball drop or go see the bell ring or whatever. Truthfully, if it's a clear night you should be able to hear the bell for miles around.

I don't think so.
The weather is promising to be great for the beach on New Year's Eve (during the afternoon) and then dinner. But I try to not be out and about after dinner time on New Year's Eve given the number of probable drunks on the road. As my brother termed it years ago, it's "amateur night", lots of people out and getting drunk and being on the road who don't normally do that. Once the sun is down I plan to be safely ensconced at home. Boring perhaps, but safe and sound. And since I do not drink, come Sunday I can enjoy a nice day (forcast to be in the 70s and sunny and up to 77 on Monday) sans hangover. Each to his/her own, but I just do not see the attraction in getting drunk and feeling like hell the next day. I also do not feel this lousy year (for me at least) deserves a send-off. 2005 takes the "prize" for being the worst year I have ever had and I shall be more than happy to see it over...(and waking up to 2006 bright and early and not hung-over from the night before)
If you let people know ahead of time that you are ordering something delivered or some takeout or something, then there is nothing wrong with passing the hat.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I beg to differ. If you are throwing a New Year's party, passing the hat for the pizza is tacky. People usually bring beverages and side dishes and such, which is fine.Originally posted by cincygreg:

Now, if you were having people over for an impromptu gathering to watch a football game and told everyone ahead of time they could chip in for pizza, I guess passing the hat would be more appropriate. But to invite people over for a party, then pass the hat, ummm, no, I don't think so.
As of right now, I have absolutely no plans for New Years, nor am I concerned about it. It's never been a favorite holiday of mine.
